For very beginners, I will typically start with a basic method book, such as Hal Leonard to learn the essentials of basic technique. For adults or students with more experience, I will cater my lessons specifically to each students interests and goals as I find that this is the best way to keep students engaged and excited to learn. I teach music theory along with anything we learn in a lesson so the student can apply it to material they are already familiar with and interested in. Read More

I attribute development of my teaching method to having started as young as I did; it is my firm belief that students and teachers should learn together, and that, especially with younger students, that it should be fun, engaging, and even a little bit silly at times. I both encourage and require regular practice on a consistent schedule; practicing not only helps students further their progress, but it helps them to avoid burnout by maintaining a view of music as less of a chore and more of a fun activity. One of the greatest joys of teachingis to see that lightbulb go on when my students really start to pick things up and the excitement they getin seeing and hearing their own musical growth! I like to have my students set realistic goals for themselves which help to inspire them when they meet a goal with flying colors! Myteaching methods involve basic theory, sight reading, ear training, picking techniques, and many other aspects. Read More

Great musicians play with passion and I love sharing that with students. I graduated from the University of Missouri in 2016 with a Bachelor of Music in String Bass performance. I have always enjoyed exploring new places and meeting new people throughout my performance career. I have played in many regions of the US and in China with the string bass and it has given me a incredibly rewarding career. I love to play classical music, jam in all styles, and lead a rock band every now and then. Read More

I began teaching guitar lessons while in college. I taught to friends and family of friends who were interested in learning music, but too nervous to reach out to a teacher that they were not comfortable with. This experience really allowed me to hone my ability to teach students who had an interest in music, but lacked the experience level and confidence to step out of their comfort zone. This was a huge breakthrough for me, I really enjoyed the feeling of helping these people achieve their goals that may have otherwise been unrealized. Read More

I break my expertise into three different categories, which we can pull from and combine based on the situation. They depend largely on the student's age, experience and interests and are as follows: Music Theory (Piano Only): We explore the mathematics behind music; the elements of scales and modes, how these are used to construct chords and how they relate to one another. Heavily focused on the circle of 5ths/cycle of 4ths. Read More

My main philosophy is that every student is different and should be treated accordingly. The methods I use are specifically tailored to each student and can be methods that I have learned or developed myself. I start students off by asking them collect ideas about their instrument and the music they enjoy. From that point, I begin to simultaneously teach technique and musicianship in relation to their expressed interests. The key to my teaching method is that I ask difficult questions and then I give the student time to think and develop an answer. Read More
