My teaching experiences started when I was in college, a fellow classmate of mine needed help with some of her younger students and the world of music education opened up to me from there. I have been teaching steadily now for 7 years, working with students from ages 5-55. I have taught group and private lessons in music studios, students' homes, or my own home studio. Students I have come across in time have come with a multitude of personality types, learning patterns and physical challenges. Read More

I give all of my students a mixture of technical exercises, repertoire pieces, and creative assignments to keep things interesting and varied. We will spend about half of the lesson on technique and theory, and the other half on understanding, and appreciating different musical styles and how to improvise comfortably and confidently over them. I have a much heavier focus on songwriting, and composing than most teachers, and I encourage my students to be as creative as possible while giving them the tools to do so effectively and correctly. I am a true lover of sharing music with others! I believe music brings people together and transcends cultural barriers. I am currently studying music at Austin Community College before I continue my studies at a full Music University. I have been fortunate to experience many different forms of music and have studied, performed, and taught various styles of music for the past 10 years. Music opens doors for people! I am a young teacher, still being a student, and I love teaching all ages, and am especially good with kids! Read More

Playing music is awesome, and I love sharing the experience of performance with students. My greatest former teachers made always two things clear - 1) it is important to strive to be better than than you were yesterday, and 2) playing music should be fun! Whether big or small, it is important to me that each student see measurable progress with every lesson. All lessons are tailored to the specific needs and learning style of each individual student. When I begin with a new student, I generally jam and analyze my student's abilities, skill level, techniques and interests/desires in music styles. When I have a good idea about my student's ability and skill level, we begin with focusing on what needs to be improved. For beginner children, I like to focus on the fundamentals and keep interest with keeping things creative, exciting and fun! For adults, I like to analyze my student's musical interests and try to associate lessons in that style of repertoire. Read More

I've had the opportunity to take guitar and voice lessons from a number of great instructors, and have learned a multitude of great methods from them. When learning the fundamentals of guitar, I find it easiest to first learn through visually learning the hand shapes and hearing the different notes and intervals. The names of the chords and sight reading can come secondary once you have a basic understanding of how to play. Read More
