My lesson style varies depending on the student's learning style, personality, preferences, etc. I usually get a sense of the learning style of a given student within 3 or 4 lessons, and if I don't I have a special test to find out. Students learn best when the teaching favors their learning style and preferred pace. Some students like to take things slow, be methodical, and are very visual. My teaching style is overall fairly laid back. I let my students set the pace, but I also expect them to be passionate, curious, and hard-working. I love to encourage students as they explore different areas of their playing, and try different ideas. I push my students just out of their comfort zone, and force them to take risks. I encourage my students to listen to as much music as possible, to explore and find what they really enjoy. At the age of 22, Timothy has already established himself as a highly accomplished solo, chamber, and collaborative pianist. He has been invited to perform solo and chamber music recitals at the Aspen Music Festival, Lincoln Center, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and the Peabody Institute of Music. I will help guide your exploration in music, and I will encourage you to soak in information from musical sources other than myself.
