I am a three-time Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist, composer, and teacher. I am proficient on saxophone, clarinet, flute, upright bass, electric bass, and piano. In 2006, I graduated with a degree in Jazz Composition with an emphasis in Saxophone Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. For some time in the mid-2000's, my wife and I had our own big band in Central Texas that played our original compositions exclusively.In 2015, our music was the centerpiece of a Hollywood screenplay with directorial consideration by Clint Eastwood and others. Some students need explicit instruction and to be pushed, others need gentle guidance with time and space to work things out for themselves. I've been playing music for most of my life. Growing up my whole family would all gather around the piano while my father played. Seeing how inspiring and influential music could be at a young age helped me to develop a passion for it. I am very grateful to share my passion with others through teaching. I specialize in teaching improvisational styles, such as blues, jazz, and funk. I work with my students to create a good balance of a strong technical foundation and creative jamming skills which builds both the intellectual and intuitive sides of music, and helps them become well-rounded musicians.
