I tailor my lesson to each student, everyone has a different way of learning and interpreting the crazy world of music. For beginning students we start with the basics, how to hold a pick, how to tune your guitar and basic fretting technique. From there we go into the basic fundamentals of chords and scales. I always try to use example from the students favorite music, and teach this theory through learning their favorite songs. Read More

I started my teaching career in 1996, teaching at the same music studio where I took lessons when I was younger. I try to carry some of the teaching techniques that were shown to me when I was taking lessons into my own style of teaching. This includes making the lesson fun as well as educational for the student. Daily practice is strongly encouraged, as well as playing with other musicians, recitals, and writing their own songs. I have been teaching privately for 40 years. My approach is to find out and pinpoint the students goals which we work on together to find out what they are. Many of my bass students have gone on to start their own bands or been hired by working bands and have their own careers. The goal is to learn and keep it interesting having fun while we are working together motivating the student to practice and get better. Read More

My goal, whether a student purse a career in music or not, is to aid development becoming not simply an instrumentalist, but a musician. Most humans are taught to recognize colors, why not sounds? I encourage improvisation, composition and study of the masters, but my priority is that it all be fun: I wouldn't hold myself to drudgery and certainly wouldn't expect that of a student. I believe every individual possess an innate musicality- the trick is to prompt a student to develop musical skills, propelled by their own inner voice. Read More

For me, the main goal of my lessons is for my students to develop a real love of music. To me it matters not if a student plays music as a hobby or intends for it to be a profession - what is most important is that they're meeting goals they have set for themselves and are having fun doing so. Although my lessons have a clear structure to them, I always make sure that the content of these lessons are interesting and exciting for each student. Read More

My number one priority as a teacher is making sure that my students develop a solid understanding of music theory in addition to honing their skills as bass players. Building upon that foundation, I then tailor the lessons to suit each student's musical goals and interests. As students begin to see the theory behind their favorite bass lines and melodies and start to understand why the music works the way it does, their understanding of each genre of music will grow.
