I love teaching beginners of any age including special needs students. I worked as a professional musician in New York City for several years and played in numerous Salsa bands, a Ska band—and small classical groups.    I also led a group called The Triple Trouble Trombone Trio and a 12 piece Salsa band called “Profundo” as well as a 9 piece Salsa/Middle Easter R&B Hybrid band called “Havana Gila” Read More

Instruments: Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Music

All of my students follow more or less a similar path that deviates a bit once they have developed some. No matter the age I start all students off with building fundamentals of tone, flexibility, articulation, and range. I use a combination of exercises from David Vining, UNC's own Buddy Baker, and Emory Remington. While building fundamental playing skills I will have students begin playing etudes. Younger students will start in their band method books, but as time goes on they will transition into Rochut's Melodious etudes, and the Rubank method books. Read More

There are core elements to my teaching that are constantly enforced, including my level of importance placed on rhythm and the aural tradition of music. Singing melodies, clapping rhythms and drum parts. Listening to music and talking and a gentle musical analysis of what we are hearing. I believe that everyone is first a person then a musician and then an instrumentalist. Read More

Instruments: Piano, Trumpet, Trombone, Drums, Bass Guitar, Organ, Euphonium, Tuba

I feel that it is best not to use the cookie cutter approach to teaching music. Each student is unique in their own way and is able to learn and apply musical concepts differently; therefore I take a careful and studious approach to make sure that my students have the best advantage by creating a custom lesson plan specific to their learning pace. I do my best to make it fun and engaging while increasing their ability and knowledge of music as it applies to their instrument. Read More
