For my beginning classical music students, I require four inexpensive keyboard books for learning and skills. I use the John Thompson series for basic learning. A notespeller by Alfred is used for theory. In addition, I use two other study books. The Alfred Technic book is aimed at measurably increasing a student's skill at the keyboard. I use a combination of different methods rather than one method. The parts to my approach is; 1) Exposure, by listening to high information music. 2) Discovery, becoming familiar with the chosen instrument by means of discovering how to make music with it and what are the possibilities with said instrument. 2) Association, by learning songs and pieces that the student is already familiar with. 3) Analysis, breaking apart songs and sounds that the student is familiar with to understand the theory behind it. 4) Aplication, by using the knowledge aquiered through learning familiar with to learn new pieces of music. I really enjoy getting to know each student personally as I develop a very individual lesson plan based on their personality and what I believe they will respond to. My style of singing is called "Bel Canto", italian for beautiful singing. Smooth, flowing melodies, flatter the voice to help it become even, flexible and expressive. My student's voices will not wear out, but rather, they grow stronger and more responsive to their owners emotions.
