I have taught in one-on-one lessons, large group rehearsals, and everywhere in between. I started my teaching with a group of peers and professors while studying my undergraduate Music Education degree. We worked as a group to teach children ages six through 16 how to play violin/cello and perform as group. My teaching focuses on bodily awareness and fundamental vocal techniques initially; this includes exercises to promote bodily flexibility and release tension in the muscles that can hinder ideal singing. This is paired with vocal exercises that promote use of the voice in a way that allows maximal vocal freedom and health. As the student gains consistency of vocal control and awareness, more time is allotted to working on music. I encourage students to discuss and choose music from the style(s) of their liking, as this keeps the student maximally engaged and allows the student to apply what they've learned to a situation that they can relate to. I am passionate about working with people of all ages, and helping them grow as musicians and develop a lifelong love of music.  After I graduated college in 2004, I went on to teach music in Wisconsin, Hawaii, and now Washington. I have taught voice lessons to a wide range of students of different ages and abilities, and have also taught beginning piano lessons. Through music I have performed across the United States in places such as the Kennedy Center.  I have also toured Europe twice as part of different choral ensembles, and sung in the most amazing cathedrals and castles. Simple breathing techniques, Hal Leonard's Vocal Warmups, is a good book I use for beginners levelsand other techniques will be taught to my beginners. We will discuss each student's goals and what they hope to accomplish in their classes. I will ask each student to sing a couple of notes and songs that I have prepared in order to assess their vocal range (alto, soprano, etc.). With the song of your choice, we will go over tone, vowel placements, translations, and performance enhancers (supporting additional sound, staging, etc.) to make the song your own and better than you have performed before. I can teach any skill level. If you are beginning with zero experience, the first thing I teach is middle C. It's the center of the universe as far as the piano is concerned. I also teach 'spider position', which is how the student wants to have their hands positioned. Intermediate students can dictate to me what they want to work on.
