In 2004 Icompleted my bachelor's degree in vocal performance with a concentration in opera from Shenandoah University (so much more engaged, excited, and subsequently successful than I was in my first college experience!). While taking a course about the anatomy and physiology of singing, I found a perfect marriage of my analytical background/skills and my passion for developing people. Once I feel the student has a solid understanding of these fundamentals, I move onto introducing them to repertoire that I think would help in putting these newly learned fundamentals into use as well as allowing them to expand their knowledge on other important factors of singing such as diction, pronunciation, phrasing, keeping a legato line, and possibly language skills depending on the piece. My teaching style is relaxed and organic. Don't get me wrong, we will work hard! But it will be fun and enriching. I teach my students to appreciate the music they make, and to listen to themselves for what is working well, in addition to what can be improved.
