For someone with no experience on guitar I'll typically begin with scales, and familiarizing with the guitar. For bass; exactly the same as guitar to start, drums would start with with your basic 2,4 beat, and familiarization with parts (snare, hi hat, etc). Vocalist I would always start with a warm up, basics, and note reciting. I try to make my lessons fun but challenging enough for there to be growth! There are days when our voices don't work as well as we'd like them to. I want my students to know that that's completely normal. Us singers have to learn vocal technique to help support ourselves on our "vocally-bad days" and to keep our only pair of vocal cords healthy at all times. I have been teaching private voice for three years, and feel like I truly thrive when I'm sharing my knowlege of music and performance. At Colorado State University I taught a to wide range of students and styles from freshmen voice majors, choral conducting graduate students, theater majors, voice minors, and even a couple aspiring folk/country singers!
