No matter the age of the student, I work to find music to which the student can connect both musically and psychologically, which is important in keeping the student engaged and motivated. I don't use a particular teaching methodology or repertoire series, but instead pull from a variety of pedagogical techniques and song anthologies, tailoring each lesson to the student, where they are in their vocal development and on that particular day. I have a deep joy for music making that I have eagerly shared with my students for the last 15 years. In addition to my varied teaching career, I am also a full-time freelance musician and travel all over the country and the world (Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Rome, Dublin) as a soloist and ensemble member. I have been fortunate to make music professionally since I was a teenager which inspired me to earn a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory and History, and Master of Music in Vocal Performance. When I first start working with students, I strictly work on warmups for a few lessons. The first lesson is usually when students get their jitters out about singing in front of someone and learn that I'm really not a scary person. Once there is comfort between myself and the student, I will start teaching them technique to create more comfort and ease in their production of tone. Read More

I began teaching lessons in college, but grew my studio while I was preparing for grad school auditions from 2010-2012. I have had success in combining my music education and music therapy skills to help students accomplish musical goals while also addressing behavioral goals such as increasing verbal or nonverbal communication. In my lessons, I value both exploring self expression and introducing new concrete information in each lesson. Self expression can manifest in picking songs we learn, learning how to improvise, exploring dynamics and tone quality, song writing, and countless other ways! Play and performance are very important to the learning process and are great ways to explore the skills my students acquire. I always encourage my students to seek out performance opportunities, the world needs your voice! Read More
