I began teaching privately in the greater Milwaukee area in 2012. With my help and motivation, a fifth grader decided to keep his flute and play in his beginning band, despite his families' circumstances. Later, I picked up an interested eighth grader, who eventually received a Gold at regional solo contest and also made the all-state band. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I believe that each student has their own unique way of learning, so I tailor my lessons to fit. To help reduce tension that can affect singing, I begin lessons with stretching and breathing practice. This gives the student a chance to unwind from the day and to focus on the lesson. I like to give my students specific practice instructions, so that their home practice is productive and I also believe that immediate feedback is important to help guide a student’s learning. I have taught private voice lessons for well over a decade in various genres from classical to contemporary. I earned a Doctorate in Musical Arts in Voice Pedagogy from Shenandoah Conservatory. I recommend that anyone starting to learn music begins at the age of ten simply because of finger strength and focus. I also try to ensure that they practice at a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes a day between lessons to help them reach their full potential. I stand by the "practice makes perfect" saying wholeheartedly. I give small amounts of homework after every lesson and try to create a fun environment for learning that is stress-free. Read More
