Although I do not necessarily consider there to be a minimum age requirement for pursuing voice lessons, I do copiously encourage parents to be astutely aware of the potential risks encountered when young students are taught vocal and breathing techniques which should be reserved for intermediate or advanced students. If a student isn't having fun learning the instrument then I am doing something wrong! Learning should be fun and a joy not a chore. I try to encourage the students to practice without being told to do so. With that comes a joy of doing it on your own and for themselves not for anyone else. This could come down to many factors including confidence in one's self to sing, lack of knowledge of proper vocal technique, lack of consistency in one's practice, lack of drive to continue on with vocal training, etc. I'm here to not only be a positive role model as to what one should do to have proper vocal technique and be able to sing freely with ease but I'm also here as a friend to encourage my students to strive to grow, to perform and to constantly work to improve oneself to reach their goals.
