I've performed in several orchestras at the college level and competed in a variety of fiddle contests throughout the state of Texas, most recently the Fiddler's Frolics in Hallettsville, Texas. I have been a volunteer after-school violin instructor in the Houston Independent School District (Roosevelt Elementary, Gallegos Elementary, and Martinez Elementary) and local Jewish community centers. I'm also very active in the Houston opera and theater communities and have performed in nearly a dozen productions in the area, often in small accompanying orchestras and as a soprano and/or actress. I like to get an idea from the student and the parent what their expectations are for music lessons. From there, the student and I come up with musical goals to accomplish for that year. We create a practice schedule based on the student's school and extracurricular activities and try to follow that schedule as much as possible. I also like to incorporate other styles of music such as popular Broadway pieces and Contemporary pieces into the student's repertoire so that they can have greater diversity in their piano playing or singing. I have my students start with sufficient stretching to get the body ready for singing. Following that, I warm up their voices with different scales and specific singing exercises, which I will use independently with students in different levels. Afterwards, we work on the music. I usually pick the music for my students. However, if there is a piece of music that my student particularly wants to learn, I am willing to compromise as long as it is suitable for his/her voice. Different students have different levels of perception or assimilation. This i establish before i even start the introductory class proper. Then i go through the fundamentals with the student, and observe their progress along the way. I was always able to sing. I started piano in the 5th grade. I played trumpet in high school and made all state band 3 years in a row. I attended college at Houston Baptist University where I received a full scholarship to study music. Once I graduated I was immediately hired to do a national tour which was followed by 5 others.
