I use an integrated style of lesson that is custom-made to each individual student regarding his/her voice type and needs, as well as different areas of music language that need more studying, like theory, music notation, solfege, rhythm, basic piano technique, ear training. I began teaching my first piano student when I was 14 years old. I have since enjoyed teaching in many different ways. I've taught private students, homeschool choruses, pre-K-8th grade (using music curriculum that I created), 8th grade science students, large choirs of beautiful angelic children's voices, adult church choirs, youth and adult bands, gospel choirs, reading literacy students,and soldier medicshow to prepare for their responsibilities. Opening up and allowing oneself to be real and show another person your raw self is difficult for both adults and children alike. I try to take each student as an individual with their own unique personality, likes and dislikes, and motivations. So I enjoy customizing a lesson plan that is as individual as each student. At the beginning of our time, I like to set goals with my students. As we progress, we revisit these goals to make sure were on track and to see if any of the goals have changed. For beginning students under the age of 12, I typically like to start with Singing Lessons for Little Singers and New Singing Games for Young Singers: Ten Original Singing Games by Donna Rhodenizer. Once they have progressed and picked up the fundamentals from these lessons I like to move on to Hal Leonard's Giant Book of Children's Vocal Solos.
