My name is Laith and I am a film composer, music producer, audio engineer and instructor. As a musician, my primary instrument is guitar/bass (17 years), secondary is piano (12 years). I'm passionate and absolutely love working with students and sharing my undying love of music. I am an energetic and encouraging instructor who loves seeing students get excited about learning new things. I have B.M. in Acoustic Composition and Electronic Music, 10 years of playing/performing French horn, 5 rigorous years of piano instruction and performance, and a whole lifetime of singing. I wear a lot of hats in my professional life that range from composer to ethnomusicologist (specializing in UK identities and politics in music) to performer (formerly primarily horn but now primarily piano and voice) to music administrator to teacher. My Teaching experience with playing the guitar is correlated to my experience as a Florida Teacher. I spent a lot of time using the guitar to build rapport and create positive teacher/student relationships that motivated students to achieve not only with the guitar but their academics as well. I have plenty of experience teaching students how to change chords, finger placement between frets, and surviving sore finger syndrome. Lol I encourage my students to practice on a daily basis and to focus on their right hand techniques as well as chord mastering. Read More

I've had quite extensive experiences in teaching. Teaching and tutoring began during my high school days. I would help out after classes or teach piano on the side. Coming up will be my 6th year in teaching piano. I've also tutored my peers all throughout college in music theory, musicianship, and ear/aural training. I've interned at an elementary school for a semester teaching general music. I was even able to get the opportunity to go to Japan for three months and teach English and translate for the United States Navy. Read More

Music and teaching it to others has been my life's work and passion. I am classically trained (obviously) and I am the first and still only person in my family to graduate from a four year college and later graduate school, having earned BM and MM degrees in Piano Performance with a minor in organ at Shenandoah University. In addition to 27 years of music ministry, 26 years as an accompanist and/or MD (classical and music theatre settings) and of course 16 years of private piano teaching, my greatest professional accomplishment is having played at Carnegie Hall in June 2014. I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. All music teachers dream that their students will be players for life, and may even find a lucrative career in music. Unfortunately, the statistics say that most students put their instrument away after graduating high school and never find the time to pick it back up. For this reason, the only permanent thing we absolutely can pass on to our students is the love of music and the art of being a good listener. Read More
