Since I am also a composer and arranger, I tend to be partial towards the use of my own "homemade" methods.... taking on the idea of composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann (example would be Album of the Young) and writing simple pieces that reinforce specific technical challenges like double thirds, left hand arpeggios, consecutive octaves, pedalling and so on. Many of my students were working professionals, so we would work on what they needed to learn whether it be a script or a song. Some had an audition coming up. so we focus on that. Non professional students will have goals as well We can put recital dates together, or a school program or show coming up. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. It's important that each of my students progress at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I've played piano since I was six and have loved music for many years. My wish is to spread such love for music and hopefully inspire my students in the future. I will graduate with a Bachelors of Music from the College-Conservatory of Music in the University of Cincinnati in December.
