For beginning students, I like to start from Essential elements, Suzuki 1, or Piano Adventures. Students will also likely have a theory workbook or worksheets that match the level of their current repertoire. Intermediate students, we will start using a program called smart music that plays the accompaniment for pieces that we are working on. This will really help develop a great internal sense of rhythm and help students recognize immediately when something needs correcting. Read More

I'm a very passionate and caring teacher who loves nothing more than to share my love for music. I've had sixteen years of formal professional training in piano starting at the age of four, as well as six years of cello which I played in the ASYO for four years. I also was the middle and high school pianist, church and choral accompanist from grades 6-12. I was pointed towards being a concert pianist had I continued in performance. Read More

I love music and performing and sharing my love of those with all of my students. I love seeing a student master a new skill and utilize it going forward on new material. I graduated from The Manhattan School of Music in 2014 but have been singing professionally since 2010. I am constantly learning new techniques to implement with my students. I am currently an active opera singer and cantor in the Tampa Bay Area. Read More

I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. The most important thing for me when it comes to teaching is knowing that my student is progressing but also enjoying their experience overall, another very important factor is overall retention of the information. Every person is different so there is really no cut and dry method of teaching, keeping this in mind the experience for everyone should be unique in a way. By setting routines together Im sure we could come to an agreement on how we could both help each other achieve our goals and succeed. Read More

Strong vocal development is rooted in an extensive understanding of healthy technique. Depending on the level and age of the student we will spend anywhere from a third to half of the lesson working on vocal exercises, which will aid in the student's foundation of developing a strong technical background. The remainder of the lesson will be spent working on repertoire. Repertoire assignments will depend greatly on the student's goals and desires. Read More

When students are being lazy I call them out on it by saying something like, "What is that?" It shakes them up and makes them realize I catch every mistake. It's done in a lighthearted way so that the students feel comfortable with me as I do not want to drive away students who fear their teacher. Comfort and discipline are imperative to help them achieve their goals. If a student feels comfortable with their instrument they are more willing to practice and achieve a higher goal of performance. Read More
