I am very passionate about music, and I try to motivate my students towards a similar love of music of all styles and genres. In 2014, I have completed my studies at Boston University, where I completed a PhD in Musicology with a focus on jazz of the 1930s and 1940s. Piano: For beginning students who are children, i typically start with Alfred's Basic Piano Methods. Once students have developed the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in. I will then guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun no matter their ability level. Voice: For beginning students, I will explore the voice types (Soprano, Mezzo Soprano, Tenor, Baritone, Bass) by learning vocal scales in order to determine the repertoire appropriate for each individual student. My teaching experience dates back to around 2017 when I first took a class in vocal pedagogy. In the class, I learned about the inner workings of the voice, the musculature and how to properly teach voices of any age. Since then, I have been working diligently to relay the most valuable information from my own teachers to my own students including proper breath support, open throat singing, and above all, having fun while doing so. My approach as a teacher is to see what the voice is already doing and improve on the foundation that we already have. All music-making is positive music-making. My students love that I laugh and chat with them during our lessons. I primarily teach Musical theater and characterization, but I can also teach classical music and diction (languages). I believe that style, voice phenomenons, language/diction, artistic innovation, decision-making, characterization, and active choice-making are the best ways to get someone to make great music. From 5 to 8 years old, the lesson takes place in a playful way. Easy hand exercises, simple rhythmic patterns, pieces with polyphonic elements. From 8 to 12 in the program there are scales and exercises by L. Ganon, J. Bach, W. Mozart, P. Tchaikovsky, and K. Cherny. I have been playing the clarinet for several years and I am very passionate about music but I have a bigger love for seeing my students enjoy music as well. I am in my last semester of undergraduate school for a major in music education. I have done church performances, hosted a recital and have performed in a trio.
