Instruments: Voice
For my first class with my students, I typically would get to know them in terms of their goals, experience as a singer, and get to know where they are in their pursuit of those goals they set for themselves. After which, I would do warm-up exercises, vowel, and consonant work, and establish fundamentals of vocal techniques for the desired genre. Once the student feels more comfortable with their voice, I would suggest an introductory repertoire (usually an Art Song) according to their age, level, voice type, and their personality. Read More

I began teaching when I was in middle school when I got the opportunity to assistant direct theater workshops in my town. I was hooked and for my Girl Scout Gold Award in high school, I ran a theater company for children of social service recipients. In college, I tutored struggling music theory and piano students and felt it was the perfect way to use my enthusiasm for music in a positive way beyond teaching. Read More

For children, I like to use music they're already familiar with so I can gauge what elements of music they're strong in, as well as what we can work on in our lessons. Using games, flash-cards, and charts work best to teach singing concepts to children in an engaging, organic way. For young/adults, the learner-center approach comes into play more, as I can have more balanced dialogues that guide my instruction accordingly. Read More

I am passionate about teaching. Music education is but a second thought of most of our children's primary educational settings, so I wanted to create a learning environment that focuses on performance and execution. I am a composer and arranger, so I also like to infuse some basic music theory and compositional/improvisational techniques into my lessons. In short, I am trying to foster new artists! Read More

I will then add more performance pieces that they can be proud of performing at recitals, for their friends, etc. I also play games with younger students like music reading flashcards, rhythm video games, and more. For adults, I put a lot of importance on whatever the student wants out of the lesson. If they dont want to learn to read music or want a less formal lesson, then thats okay! Read More

For Vocalists, the very foundation of proper singing will be taught: Posture, Breath Management, Muscle/Core Control, and Vowel Placement. These are the basics of good singing, in any genre. I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. But don't worry! I wont get overtly technical. I manage to teach the basics without you trying to multitask 100 different muscle groups while singing. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Music
I teach all ages (4-75), all backgrounds, and all sorts of wants/needs. Some students just want to learn how to sing in choir more freely. Others are pursuing music degrees. Some want to learn how to play a song or two on the piano. Others want to take RCM exams. I love meeting students where they're at and helping them out along the way! I believe everyone can and should make music! Read More
