I will be the first to admit I don't have a set method for teaching. However that is because I choose different methods based on the student. Every child, adult, teenager, etc learns at a different pace, has a different educational preference and I adjust myself to meet the needs of the student. Some will learn better by ear, others will learn through a traditional study of notes. I am first and foremost a student. I love being a student and love being open to new forms of music and anything to better my education. In May of 2017 I graduated from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee with a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance. Performance has taught me multiple languages, taken me around the U.S. and parts of Europe, working with the top musicians in the world. For beginning students who are children (3-7 years old), I typically start with the nice songs, which involve dance, animal sounds, musical games, simple percussion instruments, clapping, funny- playful movements. With the older children (8-14) we start learning staff, keys, music notes, basic scales, more complex songs, but still keep the playfulness. If I teach in person - I usually play guitar, so I can move with the students. Teenagers (15-18) are abe to set their own goals, but they're still following the basic music theory approach. To begin with, I teach my students how to develop their own warm up method which includes breathing and stretching, vocalizations and good old fashioned solfege. You will learn to understand your own vocal mechanism and how it resonates, as well as how breath support works, and their effects on the singing voice. Missing home and nature, I moved back to Massachusetts and took up teaching. I began teaching students in-home, prior to purchasing my baby grand piano which I currently use in my studio today! I went back to school to obtain my Masters of Music in Music Education, and continued to perform but this time in rock bands!
