Hello, I am Asia. I offer vocal lessons to beginners as well as those who are already proficient in the art, and I am also a local performer. I reside in Portland, Oregon, and my entire existence has been driven by singing and choir. I have had the privilege of studying with outstanding professors. I like to use a wide variety of materials, from classical to jazz music.  CLARINET: For clarinet students, I use "standard" conservatory etude and scale books (such as the Rose Studies and Behrmann Studies).  I also use the Jamey Abersold Jazz Methods, which feature CD 'play-a-long' recordings of jazz music.  I also have my students perform a wide range of solo music, from 'standards' like the Mozart Clarinet Concerto to 20th century repertoire by composers like Bernstein, Copland and others.  I think it is important for students to be able to play jazz and improvise, so I teach them about Blues and how to play jazz, as well as classical music. While I sometimes recommend rep for certain students, I like to begin with songs that are meaningful to them, provided that I see no way it could be harmful to their voice. If the student feels insecure (all too common of a problem) I try to help them feel relaxed and comfortable while boosting their confidence. I’ve held a variety of teaching and leadership roles, including positions with Portland Youth Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Music Workshop, Oregon Bravo Youth Orchestras, Ventura Harmony Project, and public school districts in California and Oregon.
