There is nothing better than seeing the face of a student light up when they grasp difficult concepts or sections of music. Positive reinforcement is the most important tool any teacher can have in their arsonal, and I try to praise my students every time I notice imporvements and support and assure them when confronted with difficulties. I set small goals, achievable goals for every lesson, so that my students can sense their progress in reaching their over-arching aspitations. Read More

I have been teaching in the Columbus area for 14 years. I have studied piano and voice for 30 years performing and had experience auditioning for and performing in musical theater, opera, and contemporary settings. After earning my degree from otterbein, I have maintained a studio of 25-30 students in the westerville/New Albany area. I currently reside with my husband and three children, three dogs, and a cat in New Albany where we run one location of my studios. Read More

I beileve music should be fun and you should never come to a lesson worried that your teacher will discourage you for not being perfect. Everyone learns at their own pace and it is important that I respect that. I also love all styles of music and believe they can all benefit from solid technique. Read More

Music is my passion and I love sharing that with others! I am a recent graduate of Miami University with a Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Music Education with a minor in musical theatre. I've had a wide array of experiences in both the education and the performing world. On stage, I studied in Graz, Austria with the American Institute of Musical Studies performing German lieder in their masterclasses and studio recitals as well as showtunes in their "Broadway in Love: AIMS in Graz!" concerts. For absolute beginner's I will spend the first few lessons just working on getting a sound out of the instrument and when ready, playing some easily recognized songs (like nursery rhymes), by ear to develop aural skills from the very start. All of my students will start with the Rubank methods of the appropriate level. For beginner and intermediate students, we will work out of classical repertoire books appropriate to the level. I teach through positive reinforcement and encouragement with a set structure that allows for discipline and certain benchmarks that can determine success and mastery of certain skills. I truly believe that when students are nurtured and given a comfortable space they will excel as creating music and art is vulnerable and requires the student to let go. This cannot happen unless the teacher facilitates an environment and space for organic innovation by the student. Read More

Music should be fun. If it isn't fun, why do it? Music is art, not machinery, and I believe lesson time should be the perfect blend of work and fun. It takes work to achieve new skill levels in music, but it takes joy, love and fun to make the work worth it! I help guide students to achieve new goals by encouraging and always pointing to the positive (because to me negative reinforcement just doesn't work). Read More
