Instruments: Piano
I am a passionate piano instructor who seeks to motivate my students to play their instrument well and naturally. I have been playing since I was 10 years old, and in 2014, I graduated from Cedarville University with a BM in Keyboard Pedagogy. I spent a year in Italy teaching music to children from various backgrounds and cultures. This has been one of the highlights of my teaching career so far and has helped me to grow as a teacher and musician. Read More

My experience with teaching started after my departure from Full Sail University. I enrolled there for online class to learn Audio Engineering and Music Business. As I was learning, I was also teaching the same information to fellow artist and friends that I was working with at the time. Some had the same knowledge as I did and I re-paraphrased information, to those that did not I educates to enhance, enlighten and advance. Read More

Music should be fun. If it isn't fun, why do it? Music is art, not machinery, and I believe lesson time should be the perfect blend of work and fun. It takes work to achieve new skill levels in music, but it takes joy, love and fun to make the work worth it! I help guide students to achieve new goals by encouraging and always pointing to the positive (because to me negative reinforcement just doesn't work). Read More

The material I teach covers scales, chords, and music theory. We can practice a variety of exercises that help improve your rhythm and dexterity. In order to tie everything together, I think it is important to play music with each other and along with recorded music as an example. Admittedly, the content of scales, chords, and music theory in itself can be dry. This is why I tend to customize how to practice something like a pentatonic minor scale. Read More

My teaching style is very personal. I feel the need to truly know my students in order to best help them progress. I like for my students to be open about concerns and weaknesses in their abilities. I try to help them to analyze their own technique rather than have me tell them directly as this will help them to progress outside on the lesson and therefore more quickly. The greatest feeling is when a student comes in already having an idea of where they want the lesson to go for that day. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
Like most trumpet teachers, I introduce the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet, an everything-you-need-to-know book that the student will use throughout their trumpet playing career. However, I also incorporate a variety of other method, solo, and duet books throughout lessons with an intent of maintaining variety, both of material and the methods that the material presents. Each lesson begins with reviews of fundamentals (long tones, breathing, lip slurs, etc.), sight-reading practice and instruction, and instruction on the solo piece that the student had been assigned the week before. It's really important to me that students enjoy what they are doing in music. It is a skill that has endless possibilities for creativity, expressing emotions, and connecting with others. This is what I want my students to learn and to bring with it a passion for music they can have for the rest of their lives. Music completed changed my life and I want to give that experience back to my students along with developing life long skills that can transfer to other areas of life such as responsibility, perseverance, and problem solving.
