My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had. Voice: In voice lessons we do not use books which allows me to fully customize lessons to the individual students needs and wants. I teach different methods of breathing, including low costal breathing and we focus on posture, sound placement, among many other fun skills. For beginning students, I focus on the essentials of theory and intervals and combine with the Voice for Life method. Each lesson is tailored to the student's needs and goals, so no lesson is exactly alike in structure. For intermediate to advanced students, I focus on aural (ear) training, sight singing and rhythm and follow it with prepared pieces in order to be "audition ready". Learning proper vocal technique- Breathing, Posture, Positioning your mouth and tongue correctly, Music and facial expressions. Voice lessons we do 10 min of vocal warmups and 20 min of songs. Vocal warmups are for basic technique.I try to have my students sing a variety of music but most common among my students is Musical theatre and pop. In my piano classes I use the Bastien piano method beginning at the primer level for the children. If they have had previous lessons, I am more than willing to continue with their current method. For adult piano students I use the Older Beginner Piano Course by Bastien. Again, if they wish to continue with previously studied materials, I am more than happy to comply with that.
