They received short lessons, where they worked on their assigned repertoire from the staff at Minnesota Opera. I mostly worked with them on breath and support. As a saxophonist and woodwind doubler, I have performer in major pit orchestras throughout the region, backed international artists including Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, Gary Smulyn, Gordon Goodwin and Wayne Bergeron. As students master the exercises new ones are assigned and worked on. Additionally, I assign repertoire that enables the student to work on the needed technical skills. In terms of repertoire selection, I always keep the student's interests in mind, but I always make sure that the student has one piece that has been carefully curated by me.
