After college and marrying, I spent several years in Greece raising my daughters. There, I launched a career in teaching English. My students ranged in age from 3 years old to 65. My musical backround made the lessons fun. I helped organize concerts, musicals and performed with bands. I also welled with pride in watching my daughters participate in these events. . I begin to introduce solo repertore when appropriate but I do not rush this process. For children in particular, I believe that John Thompson does the most effective job of working from the fundamentals up to the classics. I began teaching my sophomore year of college teaching a beginner class aimed at teaching 5-8 year olds the foundations of music in a fun and interesting way. Soon after, I started teaching private piano and voice lessons to students age 8-18 as well as directing performance program shows. I have found that letting students pick their own material to work on helps keep them motivated and interested.
