My name is Amber, and I am a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education, as well as my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance. In addition to directing the Crimson Youth Choir and teaching privately in the IUPCMS, I directed/arranged music for the IUP Crimson Chords, an elite all-female a capella jazz ensemble. I think students should want to practice for the joy of it, and so try to keep lessons fun and informative. I do believe in the importance of technique, however, and so try to encourage students to do short vocal exercises daily. For Vocalists, the very foundation of proper singing will be taught: Posture, Breath Management, Muscle/Core Control, and Vowel Placement. These are the basics of good singing, in any genre.  I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.  But don't worry! I'm a big believer in writing things down so before your lesson, don't only bring your guitar but also a notebook to write down what we learned, and what you should practice before our next lesson. My teaching style is heavily based on empathy and drive. To be where I'm at right now in my musicianship, I was once in the position of not knowing what to do or how to get better, and I know how intimidating or nerve-wracking it can be to perform for another person. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at their own pace.
