Instruments: Voice
My method used various on the students level, each student is different and the voice is an instrument that must be respected. Interests are very important and even pieces/genres that one may not find interesting, how do you know you're good at something if you've never given it a shot, so i'm all about taking chances and seeing where it leads. I would need to find your focus points, outline action items and begin to implement steps toward growth, this can only be done with cooperative indivuals who are ready and prepared to put in work! I find the process of exploring music and finding solutions together with my students to be intensely uplifting and meaningful, since, as mentioned earlier, each musical soul is unique. While I set clear standards of excellence, I am also patient with all levels and abilities. Indeed, teaching beginners (including adults) is a special passion of mine. A typical lesson will include warm-ups, scales, arpeggios and etudes, followed by detailed work on repertory pieces. Read More

I love watching my students develop a passion for music! I encourage students to practice regularly and to persevere toward specific goals. It is my philosophy that taking lessons alone will not develop the musicians skills, but through consistent practice, perseverance, and patience, a student will be able to see real progress and eventually achieve their goals. No dream is achieved overnight! Some of my favorite moments during my four years of teaching thus far have been seeing my students achieve their goals, whether they are landing the lead role in a musical, being accepted into the top choir at their school, receiving high marks at contests, or something as simple as performing in their first recital, having a break-through moment with a new technique during lessons, or memorizing their first foreign-language piece. Singing is fun! I love to watch my students be passionate about the material they do, and select repertoire with specific intent. I excel in repertoire finding and coaching, and I like to give song options to students— though it is up to the singer to perform what they like. Learning to sing is a different process for each person individually, and I believe that there is no fixed formula for all singers. Read More

My preferred piano method is Piano Adventures and I recommend using the Lesson, Theory, and Sight Reading books at each level. For guitar and voice I typically do not follow any specific method unless the student has a preference. For more advance piano students I typically will begin using Suzuki or move them to Burgmller Etudes and Schumann's Opus 68 - Album for the Young. I perform an assessment of new students in the areas of sight reading, music theory, rhythm, performance, and ear training. Read More

I have a very large tool box of methods, strategies and exercises. I like to begin by hearing from my student what the specific goals are. I put together a structured plan specifically for that student, so we can work toward achieving those goals. Lessons are often structured in 2 parts: 1) actual singing and song work, 2) exercises. The exercise portion can include ear training and sight singing components as well as vocalises. Read More
