In the past, I have used several different band methods and generally like to first use the book that the students' school district is using. As the student becomes more accomplished, I supplement with method books and solo literature from the repertoire of the individual instrument. For the younger student, additionally, I like to work with improvising and making up his/her own songs, so that they enjoy and develop a sense of accomplishment in composing their own music. Before that, I studied Choral Music Education at Ohio University. I have; extensively, studied classical voice, theatrical voice, piano, music theory, and composition. My teaching experience started when I was in high school. Being a son of two teachers I was compelled to become a tutor. I was my first student. Teaching myself how to play the piano and gutiar. I look at each student individually to assess their potential and goals before setting a book or particular study plan. Once the student has begun basic technique exercises, I assign book levels and vocal repertoire that fits their interests as well as matching what I feel the student needs to be working on.
