The atmosphere of my lessons is always calm, happy, playful, and fun. Each lesson varies according to the needs and level of the student. A typical lesson starts out with a greeting and catch up on the students week, then we get into some kind of technique exercise, scales, and arpeggios. Then we move onto a fun musical piece. I focus on teaching the music in its correct form with all proper notes, rhythms, dynamics and tempo markings. Read More

My joy is to see progress and growth in my students. I also enjoy seeing their love of music develop.  I take each student where they are: beginner or advanced, and put goals in place for them.  Such goals can be things like learning music for solo and ensemble band / orchestra competitions, performing in their Church, or putting together a jazz band or classical ensemble for concerts. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Read More

For kids I find that having a large quantity of music to learn at each level gives more variety and sense of achievement, so I usually recommend beginning students have multiple books to aid in learning. For example a young piano student will study from lesson, theory, performance, and technique books each week. This yields a well-rounded student who is proud of their achievements and eager to move forward. For adults I recommend a lesson/theory combination book at least to help with reading music. Having fun is paramount! I have a great personality, and teach in a loosely structured environment so the student feels comfortable. No matter the age or skill level, the student will find that their enthusiasm and effort will dictate their progress. I will kindly share knowledge and help give them the tools needed to succeed. Each student is different, and has different needs, and I have always been able to instinctively give what is needed for each individual lesson. Read More

My desire is to bring your musical goals into focus through education and creative participation. I believe piano instruction should be geared to the student, fun and casual, yet challenging and inspiring. I also believe patience and encouragement are essentials to a great lesson experience. I teach sight-reading, music theory, improvisation and notation, and I'm comfortable in many styles, including classical, pop and rock. You will gain skills for ensemble playing, writing your own music, or simply playing for your personal enjoyment. Read More
