I love tailoring each lesson to each individual student I teach. It is important to me that my students are interested in the material that they are learning. I enjoy helping my students reach their musical goals by selecting repertoires that appeal to them while also helping to address and resolve their technical deficiencies. For my beginning piano students, I typically start with Faber's Piano Adventures. For young singers, I use the Kodaly Method as a way of developing musical skills and teaching musical concepts. A teacher who is not implementing his own skills or who does not experiment and search for different forms of practice will soon become very limited and limiting. As a kid, I was raised in the so-called Russian tradition, took lessons with European professors in my teenage years, and immigrated to North America at the age of nineteen. A by-product of cross-culturalism, I simultaneously learned the principles of different violin schools, researched their traditions, particularities, and distinctions. Read More

I am positive but realistic, flexible but grounded in technique, and create an open, honest, and focused lesson environment. I know the voice is personal for all singers; hearing critique can often be difficult and disheartening. With this in mind, I approach all students differently. My youngest students need very different approaches than the oldest, but I find that connecting, as humans, with all ages is imperative, no matter the person. Read More

I usually take the first lesson to gauge what the student wants from learning their specific instrument. If they want to learn a specific song, if they want to get better at a certain genre, or if they just want something to do as a hobby! I believe it is counterproductive to force a certain system or lesson series that the student is not interested in. I have tons of practice books, scales, and warmups that I like to use to help the student become more proficient and confident in their craft. Read More

Nothing means more to me than a student with an appetite and love for music! It warms my heart when a child grasps a concept in a lesson and really understands what we are aspiring to. This is the most rewarding for me as a teacher. It is very important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. In addition to my training as a vocalist, I've studied vocal pedagogy in New York City under the instruction of Justin Stoney. I've been teaching for a little over 6 years, working with students of all levels ranging from beginners to Broadway professionals. Regardless of experience, I encourage all of my students to explore a wide range of material and to experiment with the diversity of their voice. You shouldn't be afraid to tackle pop music, nor should you be afraid to tackle an aria. Read More
