I have been a student of music for 50 years and continue to love the older styles as well as all the new directions while music evolves. I believe music can transform a person and those transformed will touch many other lives. Being a certified speech/drama/debate instructor as well as a musician I am convinced that music is a language and needs to be taught as a language is taught. Read More

My teaching experience began in high school, as I began teaching children in a group setting. I worked at a children's educational summer camp where I instructed choirs and chorus singers for Musical Theater. During my time at OCU, I taught private voice lessons to students with diverse vocal goals. I have found that the best way to teach singing is to let your students sing! While discussing technique and concepts is important, it can never replace the experience of practicing with your voice. Read More

My teaching experience began at the University of Tulsa. I taught voice to a few students who were non music majors for about a year. After graduating from the University of Tulsa, I began teaching at Brook Fine Arts Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I taught over 30 students a week in both voice and piano (ages 3 to 20) for over a year. In my work as a teacher, I have helped students prepare for school competitions, studio recitals, talent shows, solo and ensemble contest, and musical auditions. Read More

For younger students, I always want to make sure our lessons stay fun, while encouraging growth at the same time, so I usually let them pick a song they like, and then I assign another to assist with their musical development. For older students and adults, we really dive into technique and vocal health, with a strong emphasis on technicalities like breath support and placement, and then use that foundation to branch out into multiple genres. Don’t be deterred by the thought of classical training techniques. The techniques and abilities I have developed did not hinder my ability to sing and perform other genres as one might assume. In fact, the opposite is true. The classical technique I teach helps the singer develop full control of his or her voice. This allows one to adjust one’s singing style appropriately to the genre at hand. Read More

Integration of Technology: I utilize technology as a tool to enhance learning and engagement. This may include interactive apps, online resources, recording software, and virtual performance opportunities, enriching the learning experience and keeping students inspired. Customized Lesson Materials: In addition to using established method books and repertoire, I often create custom lesson materials tailored to the specific needs and interests of my students. These materials may include exercises, arrangements, worksheets, and practice tracks designed to reinforce key concepts and enhance learning. Read More

I am a compassionate instructor and am excited to share my love of music with my students. My philosophy is that the student comes first and the music comes second. I attended Oklahoma City University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Musical Theatre. After leaving OCU I studied further voice lessons from Michael Crowley, a former member of the company at the Metropolitan Opera. I have played piano since I was 5 years old. Read More
