Don’t be deterred by the thought of classical training techniques. The techniques and abilities I have developed did not hinder my ability to sing and perform other genres as one might assume. In fact, the opposite is true. The classical technique I teach helps the singer develop full control of his or her voice. This allows one to adjust one’s singing style appropriately to the genre at hand. Read More

For beginning piano students I typically use the Alfred Method. Once the student demonstrates a grasp of the fundamentals I introduce solo repertoire. For adults I typically use the John Thompson Adult Piano Course and we work together to find the solo repertoire. For voice lessons, I typically teach the bel canto style. I will work with vocalises that help develop breath control, placement and open vowels. I also use the Music Theory for Singers program to teach Music Theory and also use solfeggi to build sight singing skills. Read More

There, I completed my Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in May of 2015 and my Master of Music (M.M.) in May of 2018, both in Vocal Performance. I have performed genres including opera, art song, jazz, soul, and pop. Read More

For my students, I like to start with repertoire appropriate to their voice type. I will work with each student on pitch, tone color and quality, diction, and breath support. Things will be taken at the pace of the singer. Generally, opera arias will be saved for students above intermediate level. For children, I will not give opera arias because of the level of difficulty and extensive damage that can be done to the vocal chords in doing so. Read More
