Instruments: Piano Voice

My method makes understanding the breathing, support and execution of the voice the first priority. After this is achieved, exercises are assigned to further develop range, control, strength and vocal agility. The bottom line is that although it takes years to develop a strong, skillful and sensitive singer, it should not take years for a singer with good tutelage and a willingness to work hard, to sing competently. So without the ability of the student to make a good tone and control the voice, all the exercise cds and books are useless. Read More

My teaching experience started after college I began teaching with public schools in 2006 and teaching independently in 2009 all ages. I love all genres of music and I motivate and encourage my students to explore music in that way. I love to have fun with teaching and competition so I encourage students who are interested in a performing career to perform live in talents shows , community events, family parties and gatherings so that they are able to have the experience amongst there peers and family. I typically use a combination of methods in the private lesson setting-method books, etude books, books for technique, solo repertoire, and pop/rock/jazz music and or charts for contemporary study. For beginners, I like Essential Elements 2000, Faber Method, Suzuki solo books, and easy pop music books. For more advanced students, I will incorporate advanced methods such as etude books/orchestral excerpts along with repertoire geared more towards polishing for recital or performance. Read More

The number 1 key to a great lesson is to ensure the student is comfortable within the lesson and that they are having fun. For Vocal lessons in young beginner students, I typically walk through a few fun silly warm-ups, and breath exercises to get their voice moving free, then allow the student to sing "happy birthday" or another short song to determine pitch range. I follow-up with the "movable Do" concept ("fixed Do" for more advanced), to recognizable songs to teach pitch recognition, diction, and vowel sound in preparation for solo repertiore. Read More

My teaching style is to find what works for each student. I am very passionate about music, and I want you to enjoy taking lessons, while learning new skills. I will set realistic goals for each student throughout our time together, and this will help them to monitor their progress. Nothing excites me more than seeing a student succeed! Read More

It is important for students to progress at their own pace. Every student is different and some will be willing to practice for hours every day to get to where they want to be, and others are more casual and may practice less than 20 minutes a day. The important thing to know is no matter what you are doing it is okay, as long as you are having fun or you're doing what you want, or what will make you happy. Read More

My style is open minded. I first try to know the students' goals and prepare a course of action accordingly. Then I try to know how much the students already knows and how much talent they have. That allows me to determine how fast I may go with them or how much I must drill and develop a particular skill before going on. Sometimes if I assess the student is jammed or stressed I deem it necessary to digress a bit into music history , philosophy and other fields related to music that work as a refreshing background and point of rebound to the skill part of the lesson while increase the scholarly knowledge of the student. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
