Based on a child's interest and personal voice, I recommend pieces of music varying from musical theatre, 28 Italian Songs, Schirmer's Book of Solos, and Hal Leonard's Standard Literature. In our lessons, I teach students to warm up with the proper technique, and so that they may warm themselves up when practicing. We also work on sight reading and dictation to implement musical literacy. Most importantly, we discuss textual meaning and how it relates to our performance skills. Read More

I began teaching when I was 17 and have a pretty busy schedule of up to 35 students a week! Many of those students still continue to take lessons after 3 years of instruction and have improved beyond their original goals. I find that each student has different interests (rock, jazz, classical, pop, etc.) which is why I enjoy focusing on what they want to learn. Other students do not know exactly what they want to learn; however, they just want to improve in playing their instrument all around. Read More

My teaching experience has been with All About Theatre Company since 2017. Teaching Kids-Teens how to sing, dance and act. I have been teaching private voice for the least year over zoom since the pandemic. Encouraging regular practice and developing a personal vocal exercise routine for every student is something I do for every student, every voice is unique so there is no one size fits all here. I help encourage a students passion in the area of music they are interested in while exposing them to other genres that might help them achieve there vocal goals. Read More

It is good to start singing lessons around age 11, when the voice starts to change - even though it can feel awkward at first. There are hormonal, physical, and emotional changes in those early teen years that respond well to the lyrics and stories told in many contemporary songs. I work to match the stories as well as melody and vocal range to the songs I give all my students. Read More

My experience in teaching started when I was in undergraduate school fullfilling my vocal pedagogy requirements and was instantly drawn to it. I have always been selected to be the section leader in choir or the vocal coach in my casts and it has allowed me to better understand how we learn as musicians and Ive taken that with me into my own private studio. Having just returned from 3 years performing at sea, Im looking to build my studio even more and am looking forward to bringing on new students of all ages, styles, and skill sets. Read More

Few experiences are more rewarding than helping students discover not only what they only imagined possible but also what they never would have expected when beginning a musical education. I encourage exploring a creative curiosity built on a solid technical foundation. In my lessons, I specifically strive to develop a unique plan unique for each student to ensure that needs and interests are being acknowledged so the student is getting the most out of each lesson that he or she can. I do believe in the fundamentals of music and ultimately, no matter what you hear, learning music is not re-inventing the wheel. There is technique, reading music and understanding the basics of how the particular instrument works. I like the Essential Elements for Guitar or bass for guitarists and bassists and Alfred's Piano method books. Ted Reed's Guide to Syncopation is a good drum book. Ultimately I like to get the know the student as much as I can as soon as I can so I can help them get to what they want as soon as possible with a few laughs along the way. Read More
