For all students, I like to start by addressing short-term as well as long-term goals that the student is looking to achieve in learning their instrument. In understanding their goals and their preference for genre/style and ability, I guide my instruction accordingly, keeping the lessons fun and engaging! Read More

Every student is different, so my approach to each student is tailored to their goals. Young students need more guidance than older students and are encouraged to broaden their musical tastes and explore what will ignite their musical imaginations. Some of my students are working toward auditions such as The Voice and we focus on song choice, technique and performance. I teach every one of my students as though they were my only student. Yearning a deep and fulfilled interest in classical music has enabled me to uniquely interpret classical music on a complex analytical music level & compositionally dissecting music. I am patient and active with each of my students. I allow the student their own preference as to how lessons are to be arranged (e.g YOU pick the music = YOU decide your pace)...I encourage my students to practice and come prepared with material they either have ambition to learn and all the other little steps involved in being diligent with an instrument. I teach because I love imparting knowledge and making connections in this way, and because I love the fundamental building blocks of musicianship and music theory. I have found that with careful attention to a student's character, the possibilities for learning are boundless. I like to let love guide the process, in the sense that I observe carefully the kinds of sounds that a student is fond of, and attempt to structure their learning in a way that empowers them to make those sounds. The same applies for my vocal students. We will start with the fundamentals of our vocal instrument, air flow, breath support, and the components of the body that make up the vocal passage so they can understand how singing actually works. We will do vocal warm ups and exercises to open the voice and prepare them for singing. When they are ready, we will work on songs and vocal delivery as well as other techniques such as vibrato, solo's, harmonies, etc. Read More

Because everyone learns differently, I teach from a technique I've developed which I refer to as the blank slate method. Though I do utilize workbooks for their very informative and easy to understand nature, I prefer to teach each student based on what they know or what comes naturally to them. This involves you the student, your instrument, and a pen and paper. For beginner students who are children, we work together to learn a simple song so that they can feel a sense of accomplishment and be further motivated to continue their studies. Read More

A warm up I use to take care of this issue is asking the student to make a fire siren noise and I go up an octave (ex. do-do, re-re,mi-mi). In an adult I will ask the student to yawn (lifting the soft palate) and sigh at the same time. This is a very simple correction to make in students of all ages. The important thing is to create a nurturing environment in which a student will best understand what I am teaching them. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
