Instruments: Piano Voice Violin

I began teaching privately ten years ago and have had a varried studio with voice, violin and beginning piano students. I have had students ranging in age from three years to mature adult, all at very different levels of musical ability, and I have taught in the classroom in rural, urban and suburban settings.  From these experiences I have learned productive practicing is key, along with self-motivating strategies, to grow as a musician. Instruments: Piano Voice

I began teaching private voice lessons in high school to friends that wanted to work on building vocal technique. Upon beginning college, I took giving lessons more seriously and have consistently had a studio of a few students a semester for the past year and a half. I have studied voice pedagogy and have a deep understanding of how the vocal mechanism functions and how to ensure that students are singing healthily and strengthening their instruments. Read More

Yes for teaching piano I use Nancy and Randall Faber's books. I have used all of them. For guitar and mandolin I generally do not use a "book". As the lessons progress I might introduce a book if that is what is called for. All orchestral instruments call for the structure of a book and I augment that with my own explanations. This is true for all ages of learners. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

I think it's important for students to learn from all styles of music; but if they enjoy one style in particular, I believe it's important to study this style with them and help them to improve upon it. I love understanding what makes each individual unique; so I really listen to them and design a curriculum based on their likes; challenging them to appreciate all styles of music; and encouraging them to become fluent in various genres, time periods and methods. Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Music

I have experience teaching private students from beginner to advanced levels and with students of all ages. Teaching voice requires the knowledge to help shape and expand technique in a healthy and appropriate manner, which I have developed during my years at Eastman. I also encourage my students to explore all different genres and work to apply the technique across all styles. I myself have performed in many musical productions and operas. Read More

Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Violin Cello Viola

My method is very flexible and student specific. Everyone learns slightly differently and has their own unique strengths. In general, I have a "sound before sight" method. Students learn music thoroughly, aurally and theoretically before trying to read it off the page. Imagine trying to learn a language by being handed a book. We then use your innate understanding of the music to inform your technique and the way you approach the instrument. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice Keyboard

Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing a student develop a genuine passion for music! I believe that every student learns best when they are progressing at their own pace. To support this, I set realistic, individualized goals at each lesson, helping students build a strong foundation while acknowledging each step forward. Celebrating these accomplishments fuels their desire to learn and makes them eager to dive deeper into their studies. Read More
