For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. I am all about the live performance, so my ultimate goal is to make the singer comfortable with the stage and the music, finding ways to connect to the music to bring out the correct emotion to capture the audience. From there we move on to learning music theory, Open throat technique as well as specific techniques involving the students preferred Genre. I am a nurturer. I teach with caring, passion and support of all my students. It's not just enough show students how to play a note or read a rhythm, but how to use that knowledge in everyday life. I like to build a positive working relationship with my students. He  is the head of the Instrumental department at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington DC. He pretty much sparked the idea of education in music for me. My Bachelor's of Music Ed, and my Master's of Music in Performance are from LSU-Monroe where I was principle in both band and orchestra, and lead trombone in the jazz ensemble.
