Growing up I’ve had a variety of coaches, one thing I noticed is that I was always lost enameled by the teachers that nurtured my creativity. Many times there are music teachers that only teach what they like and what they know. My students can expect to expand their versatility but as a smaller portion of the overall focus. My methods and practice is very student centered. It is my job whether the student is aware of what they want to learn to find out what they are most passionate about and nurture that to grow. I first started teaching music in 2014. I began as a guitar instructor, then made my way into teaching piano, drums, and bass as well. I believe that the best way to teach a student how to play an instrument is to first teach them how to play music. In my experience I have found that allowing students to try several different instruments and participate in group jams with other musicians teaches them to fall in love with making music. Read More

My teaching experience began when I was 12 years old: I started my own company and taught 10 students weekly for two years, culminating with a recital at my house to which I invited their families for a celebration in their musical accomplishments. For beginning students, I always start with technique and posture, as improper technique can be catastrophic to your playing down the line. On top of that, each student will receive a "riff of the week", a guitar riff from a song that is in line with their particular music tastes. For example, if the student in question likes Punk Rock music, every week we'd go over a riff from a popular Punk song. Read More

I start beginning students that are interested in learning to play guitar with rhythm for the strumming hand. I will then move on to the fretting hand to finger positioning as well as learning the notes (on the guitar fingerboard) as heard at concert pitch. Music theory will be taught as applied to the guitar. I do not use any published books for teaching but prefer to develop my own lessons plans customized to each students interest and ability. My methods are largely dependent upon the personality and learning style of my students. One thing is always constant in my teaching, and that is the monitoring of the students ability to read and interpret written music and tablature. The first week or two is devoted solely to establishing a basic ability to site-read music within the student. From that point, the journey into the world of guitar begins. I tend to employ the Hal Leonard method of teaching, following along with several of the Hal Leonard guitar books, for electric and acoustic guitars, also bass. Read More
