I start all beginners with the Mel Bay guitar method. That's how I started. From there we create what works for them. I'm also learning as I teach and creating each lesson newly. I like to keep the lessons fresh and exciting too. Finding fun ways to practice the modes and scales. After each lesson we want to measure our growth and our progress. I also love seeing my students play live too. Read More

I create a hands on curriculum based on the students musical proficiency. Alongside this structured lesson plan, every student will receive training on proper practicing techniques which help build their sense of guidance, responsibility, and structure. Students will also receive training for embouchure and tone development as well as warm up etudes that cater to the students skill level. Music theory and terms will be infused within the lesson plans to ensure my student's proper use of signs and symbols. Read More

For beginning students, I always start with technique and posture, as improper technique can be catastrophic to your playing down the line. From there we'll cover the basics, such as chord shapes, strumming patterns, and scales. On top of that, each student will receive a "riff of the week", a guitar riff from a song that is in line with their particular music tastes. For example, if the student in question likes Punk Rock music, every week we'd go over a riff from a popular Punk song. Read More

I teach all aspects of brass playing: air control, embouchure development, articulation, tone, range, and musical interpretation of all styles. I teach a complete understanding of the guitar fretboard. I incorporate music theory and an understanding of chord structure in all lessons, and for all instruments that I play and teach. I have played in a wide variety of musical groups from symphony to jazz and rock, so I can direct my teaching toward the styles that you enjoy. Read More

My approach to teaching comes from my absolute love and obsession with music -- nothing makes me happier than to see my students happy and growing as musicians, because I truly believe that more authentic musicians makes a better world. I understand that each student learns at his or her own pace, so I never push hard or over-challenge, but rather encourage their process by acknowledging accomplishments and constantly refreshing their inspiration and ensuring that they are having fun with the process! It's all about having a clear goal in mind and working towards it: we'll have conversations about objectives and musical preferences (classical? jazz? rock and pop?) and then develop goals based on those preferences (playing live? what kind of pieces/songs?). Once I have an idea of where the student wants to be, I share my lesson plans with them and tell them what particular exercises or songs/pieces will fit those goals. Read More
