My teaching methods are relatively universal. With younger students, I focus more on learning to have fun while learning about their instrument at the same time. The more fun they're having, the more likely they are to stick to it. For adults, I keep this same philosophy in tact, but incorporate more technique, theory, and performance practice into our sessions in order to facilitate the learning curve. Once I know what my student enjoys about music, I tailor my lessons around that. Read More

There are moments that I look back and think how amazing is that students start from scratch and now they are able to create music on their favorite musical instrument. Technical development is always an essential element in my teaching but the ultimate goal is to help the students to feel and express music to the very extent their abilities. Often, I focus on the particular struggles a student may go through and I am trying to help them overcome the obstacle that may prevent them to enjoy the music they play. Read More

Setting S.M.A.C. goals for my students is very important. These are specific, measurable, achievable and challenging. Nothing makes me feel more accomplished as when I help my student feel accomplished and reach their goals. I have a very non critical approach and encourage mistakes with a non judgemental attitude. I feel this lightens up the atmosphere and allows the student to grow at a much more rapid rate. Read More

I grew up appreciating music at an early age as my dad was an avid music listener of classical, jazz, new age, and feature film soundtracks. At the age of 20 I started to get interested in learning the guitar because I loved the way acoustic guitars sounded. I studied in the music programs at Pasadena City College and Mount San Antonio College for a period of about 2 years. I took guitar lessons privately for about 3 years. Read More

My teaching experience began when I was 12 years old: I started my own company and taught 10 students weekly for two years, culminating with a recital at my house to which I invited their families for a celebration in their musical accomplishments. This early education as an instructor helped me to realize how truly natural it is for me to passionately share my knowledge and excitement about music, while tailoring my instruction to each students' needs! I love to teach. I studied in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, and Mathematics, but music and teaching have always been in my life, teaching students throughout high school and college at UGA as a second job. I took trips to Mexico over the summers from 2002-2005 playing music for children and students in between manual labor mission work. My music performance experience ranges from large outdoor venues in front of a large crowd to sitting and recording acoustic and electric lead tracks in a studio. Read More

It's important to cultivate a student's musical knowledge by building upon their current foundation. Similar to the way children learn a language, music students of all ages should start by listening and singing/playing before learning to read and even write. Combining this natural approach with a focus on how and why to develop good technique helps students get the results they're looking for. Read More
