While still in high school, I discovered that I love watching others realize their own musical potential. I began with tutoring my peers and enjoyed it enough to take on students of my own. My teaching had to take a pause during my college years, but I have been looking forward to the freedom to teach again! I try to help my students feel comfortable with themselves and their abilities because it can be frustrating to not understand a concept immediately or progress as quickly as others, and I want them to enjoy the music while they're playing rather than comparing themselves to others. I use the Suzuki Method throughout my teaching process. I think it is a great bases for teaching the techniques necessary to master the violin/viola. I also use various scale books (according to level) to teach note reading, sight reading, and basic music theory. Each student in my studio is required to work on a technique (scales, etc.) and one to two solo pieces. Along with this, majority of my students perform with orchestras in schools or the community. I began teaching lessons at age 14 to young neighborhood beginners. As I progressed through the years, I expanded my range of student ability from beginner to upper intermediate, and from ages 6 to... well, older than me and I'm now 60!
