In the first lessons, I explain the the beginner students the basic functionality of the instruments, the proper way to hold the instruments, how to produce a clear sound from the instruments and a Major scale ascending and descending, the one from which the first lessons or the next lessons is written. If the students already had books from prior music instructor, we pick up from the last lessons after answering questions t o make sure the students thoroughly understand the lessons from the previous chapters and he or she is ready to proceed to the next lessons. The way I approach teaching is very much a mix between tradition and improvisation. Every single student is different so I try to tap in to their personality and use that to help them. The work of learning the instrument is divided in 2 parts, the teachers part and the student. The teacher has to be clear, loving and practical to help the student progress. I first talk with my students to figure out their goals.  Once a reasonable goal has been agreed upon, I enthusiastically help them jump right into playing their instrument.  By breaking up portions of the lesson with review of simpler pieces, I encourage my students to play fun and simpler things as well, so that they do not beocme frustrated.  I always bring my positive attitude to each lesson, and have the students write down what to work on after each lesson.
