My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 4 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 2 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. Every time I teach a student, I learn something new about people and my instrument. I end up learning right along with them, and I love it! if you are starting from ground zero, I typically like to start with the Suzuki method books, and learning by ear. Learning good techniques and is of the utmost importance at this stage! Once you as a student are more comfortable with the violin, then I like to branch out and incorporate songs and techniques that you'd like to learn, which can be anything that is within your skill set. We'll be doing two septets for violin, viola, cello, bass, clarinet, bassoon, and French horn by Adolphe Blanc and Franz Berwald. We just performed them 3 other times in MIllis, MA, Methuen, MA and Hamilton MA, Yes and in August we performed at the Plymouth library in Plymouth MA doing a different program. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a modified Suzuki method, starting with rote learning and eventually progressing to notated music. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
