I normally use the Standard of Excellence method books for most of my students; however, I am open minded to adjusting to each individual student's musical needs, whether it be Jazz, Classical, or whatever style music the student is focusing on. For Drummers, I prefer the Haskell Harr Method, or the Buddy Rich Method Book, as well as the Breeze Easy Method Book. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I feel that my role as a teacher is to present new information or challenges, and aid the student in learning how to address those challenges on their own. I have been teaching regularly since my college days. I started as a piano teacher, but quickly expanded into stringed instrument.
