For beginning strings students (even young children) to advanced students, I use the Suzuki method along with the accompanying sight reading book, I Can Read Music. Advanced students who have reached Suzuki book 6 and beyond are invited to seek out other repertoire as a supplement to their Suzuki studies. Students who are involved in an orchestra are also invited to bring excerpts of their music to their lessons so that I can help them to feel confident and prepared at playing tests and auditions. I'e been playing since I've been a young child and have never been able to see myself do anything else. I am currently playing with the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra as well as the Michigan Philharmonic Symphony. I aspire to play with the Michigan Opera Theater soon and become a studio musician. For beginning students who are children, I start with Essential Method Book for Strings. Once the students has progressed more, I use Suzuki Method books, and also, choose (introduce) solo pieces for recital performance. For adults, I find out what the student is interested in and find the book that fits their interest (and guide my instruction accordingly to engage them).
