I am classicaly trained violinist with over four decades teaching experience in academia and privately. As a concert violinist I perform nationally and internationally in the United States and Europe. I welcome students of all skill levels from beginners to advanced players. My students get to choose some of their repertoire and lesson content as it makes it more enjoyable for them. I do require all students to play scales as they provide an essential foundation for all that they will play. After earning Bachelor Degrees from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory and the Peabody Conservatory (under the instruction of Qian Zhou and Keng-Yeun Tseng), Chieh-An entered the School of Music, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to continue his exploration of music repertoire and acquired a Master of Music degree under the tutelage of Wayne Lee. My first violin student started with me 9 years ago during my undergraduate studies in Utah. I realized that teaching is much different than performing and started taking classes to be a better instructor. I grew up studying the Suzuki books and have registered Violin Teacher Training Units 1-4 with the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
