When the students become advanced, they usually have a goal with what they want to do with music. I will do everything I can to help them achieve this goal and find a way to keep the lessons engaging. If I am starting out with an adult student, I would want to find out what they are interested in achieving and work with them towards their goal. For beginners and advanced students, I want to keep them engaged and share my love of music with them. Read More

I believe in the importance of holistic music pedagogy for students at every level. Musicianship requires technical proficiency, music theory training, music history study, and creativity. I prefer to craft unique courses of study for each of my students rather than using popular, one-size-fits-all approaches, such as the Suzuki Method. Though many of these methods have valuable pedagogical insights, I hope my students can have a deep engagement with music, art and creativity that goes beyond technical mastery, a goal that requires a greater flexibility than such methods provide. My teaching method combines aspects of the Suzuki method with my own creative exercises and improvisation. I believe that teaching students to invent melodies and rhythms from early in their musical training deepens their ability to hear and perform. I also believe that rhythmic exercises are not emphasized enough in classical instrumental training, and I incorporate such exercises into my own core curriculum. If a student is interested in improvisation, jazz, or pop music, I offer in-depth instruction to performing over chord changes, and other creative violin techniques like playing chords, chopping, and other percussive tools. I have been teaching music for seven years now and I love it. I studied music performance at the Purchase Music Conservatory. I play and teach violin, viola, cello, guitar, and piano. I write music and occasionally I make fun music videos. See above my students all playing Megalovania together during covid lockdown. You can find me playing music all the time in the park doing my one man orchestra looper pedal act. Read More

For beginners who are children, I start with the essential Suzuki method which includes a focus on musical listening imitation, parental involvement (at very young ages) and creating an effortless technique. The Suzuki books are great in that they provide a great foundation and an extremely logical progression for taking students from complete beginners to an advanced level. For advanced students, we can branch out into a wide variety of classical concertos or other repertoire (this happens around Suzuki book 6) I love to teach adults, and I try to structure my teaching in accordance with adult students' goals and interests. However, I do not teach the Suzuki method. I use the book for the songs and exercises in the book. I also like all students to work from a theory book. When we learn how to speak, we also learn how to read and write in our language. I believe that the same is important for music. I use different books for adults and children. As for continuing students, I will see what they know and continue from there. Read More
