I started teaching in high school, with my very own private students, and coached non-music major ensembles during my undergraduate degree in addition to receiving pedagogy training. As many performers do, I began as a reluctant teacher, but quickly realized that teaching is extremely rewarding and fun! I make sure that the students are enjoying the lessons while pushing them to play as well as they can. My first teaching experience dates back to High School when I had the opportunity to coach elementary orchestra students. As a student at University of Colorado at Boulder and DePaul University, I completed String Pedagogy courses which covered all the different elements of teaching from how to manage a private studio to instructing your students. I am a creative and enthusiastic violinist based in the Northwest Indiana region. I graduated with a degree in music with an emphasis in performance in 2018 from Butler University. During my undergraduate career, I was principal 2nd violinist with the Butler Symphony and performed two solo recitals. For my entire teaching career thus far, I have taught the Suzuki method. I find the sequence of pieces in each book is quite suitable for a young musician. However, I do believe note reading and general music theory should be incorporated into lessons right from the beginning, especially if the child does not have a background in piano.
