For violin, viola, cello and bass, I teach the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based strongly on memory and takes a systematic approach to introducing music of increasing difficulty. For classical guitar, I start off with the Frederick Noad system, "Solo Guitar Playing", and scales. As skill level increases, I assign more etudes and standard guitar repertoire. For acoustic guitar, I teach almost exclusively finger-picking. I teach the same high standard skills for acoustic guitar that I teach for classical, but concentrate on masterpieces of the repertoire. Read More

I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. I have a wide range of experience in teaching music. I have taught over a dozen students through my personal music studio at Florida State University, and many of them have gone on to win auditions at the university level. I have taught beginners solid fundamental skills and I have taught advanced students to refine their musicianship and their technique. Much of my experience comes from the classroom: I completed my student teaching at the Florida State University Schools, and I taught five classes full time. Read More

I find that my teaching style is focused on harboring curiosity of music for the beginner student. It brings me joy to see a student go above and beyond because they research more to what I offer them on the page to help enrich their playing. I ask students what they most would like to work on or accomplish and help them set realistic goals with skill building exercises to practice. Read More

This is why I feel in complete understanding with the philosophy of this program, and with the mission that I have as a violin teacher immersed in the community. I would feel very honored and proud to be able to help develop your program. 2- My experience as an educator has been to be able to build a system of values through the musical practice such as will, discipline, responsibility, self-criticism, and team work, which are the benefits of ensemble playing, orchestral practice, or being part of a musical project. My teaching style really focuses around developing a love for your instrument. If the student loves their instrument and the music that is written for their instrument, they will feel encouraged to practice. I try to pick up on the student's personality and learning styles and make each person's lesson a combination of my teaching styles and what works best for the student. Once we find the routine and groove that works for the both the student and myself, then the learning should come along easily and fun. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
