In my lessons knowing scales and arpeggios will be important. I also teach about keys and time signatures early on. As my students get into more advanced music, I select solo literature that best fits their musical abilities. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for violin students and piano adventures for piano students. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
