For students interested in studying stringed instruments, I have found that the Suzuki method is a very effective curriculum for young children who cannot yet read well, yet engaging enough for older students if supplemented with note-reading and technique exercises. Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and Robert Frost's All for Strings are two other proven methods that work well for almost any age. Young piano students do very well with Alfred's Basic Piano Course or Faber Piano Adventures methods, and Bastien and Alfred both have methods for adults that seem to promote quick learning. I love seeing my students get excited when they play a song perfectly for a performance, and I understand that there is a long road to get them to that point. I am a firm believer in using encouraging words over disciplinary actions when a student does something incorrectly. I have first hand seen the difference between the two and I have a history of my students always being excited to continue learning when they are encouraged. Read More

For pianists, there are so many different method books, I recommend for beginners Faber Method Series for younger beginners, for adult beginners we can start with Alfred's All in One Method for Adult Beginners. I have used Alfred's Series, Piano Adventures, John Thompson's Series, Bastien Series, Playtime Piano Series (also Faber). For more intermediate students I would use books that are a collection of different types of baroque and classical pieces, and First Lessons In Bach, and for more advanced students solos and concerti from composers such as Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, LIszt, etc. Read More

I love teaching the violin!!, my emphasys is in the real true and with love every thing. There are many ways to teach an instrument, one of them is from the perspective of visual memory, or I know, there are teachers who demonstrate first and then the student tries to imitate what he hears and sees There are also others who speak and ask for what they want without demonstrating anything, because obviously they are no longer at the level playing or because they have a condition in their hands or fingers, and they get things by speaking, making themselves understood by the word. At the age of 17, I flew to Hollywood, CA to attend Musicians Institute where I studied Bass Guitar Performance. Learning from and playing with some of the best musicians in the business was amazing. I left school to hit the road with my first professional band. I spent the next 20+ years writing, recording and touring all over the country. I was lucky enough to be in a few bands that landed indie recording contracts, which allowed me to tour nationally doing original music, with songs I had written being played on radio and on TV shows across the country.
